Resumo

This study presents an interdisciplinary strategy to contextualize chemistry education by integrating biology and environmental sciences, using chemical and biological pesticides as a unifying theme. The workshop was developed in response to the persistent difficulty students face in learning chemical solution concepts when taught without connection to their reality. Conducted in a private school in Duque de Caxias (RJ), it introduced the pest Anticarsia gemmatalis, its biological control by Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), and a simplified bioassay that allowed students to compare biological and chemical control while applying concepts such as solution preparation and dilutions. The activity generated clear evidence of learning and engagement, including improved performance on questions about chemical solutions, active participation in discussions, and increased interest in scientific inquiry, which extended to producing digital content about the experiment. The results demonstrate the innovative character of the proposal, which combines authentic biological data with hands-on chemistry activities to create a meaningful, contextualized learning experience connected to socioscientific issues relevant to students’ lives.
