Resumo

Li-ion batteries (LIBs) play an important role in society and in the development of energy sustainability. However, they generate a significant amount of solid waste in the environment after their useful life, which is problematic as they are made up of a large amount of metals. The synthesis of new materials from the recycling of these batteries stands out as an alternative for reducing environmental impacts associated with their high consumption. In this work mixed oxides were synthesized from the recycling of LiFePO4-type LIB automotive batteries for use as a photocatalyst in the degradation of methylene blue (AM) dye as an alternative for the treatment of textile effluents. The synthesized mixed oxides (OMC and OMCG) were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDS) and transmission electron microscopy. The catalytic efficiency was tested by means of the heterogeneous photo-Fenton reaction at pH 6.2, obtaining decolorization of 88% (OMC) and 98% (OMCG). The method proved to be efficient in removing the organic dye from aqueous solutions, promoting a circular economy, sustainable development in the battery market and reducing environmental impacts.
