Resumo

Cyclometallation is a reaction that produces organometallic compounds, in which the metal center binds to the organic scaffold by both coordinative (to a donor group, M—D) and covalent bonds (to a carbon, M—C). Cyclometallated compounds have been used in several organic reactions as important catalysts since cyclometallation reactions lead to the activation of strong organic bonds such as C—H in mild conditions. However, these structures have interesting chemical features that can be explored for other applications such as potential candidates for metallodrugs or photochromic devices. This work aims to introduce how cyclometallation in ruthenium compounds can be explored to achieve desired photochemical properties and better biological activities.
