Resumo

Chemistry plays a central and irreplaceable role in the constitution and functionality of textile fabrics, whether of natural or synthetic origin. Each stage of the life cycle of fabrics is intrinsically related to fundamental principles of Chemistry, with intermolecular bonds defining the physical properties of fibers to the chemical processes used in their modification and dyeing. This article aims to discuss the chemical aspects of the main natural fibers used in the manufacture of sustainable fabrics. All human beings make use of fabrics in their clothing, whether natural or synthetic, making this commercial activity international and extremely relevant to the global economy. It is worth mentioning that this work will not address the dyeing processes with natural or synthetic dyes, nor the structures and methods of preparation of these dyes.
