Resumo

Distilled water is a necessity in every teaching or research laboratory. They usually use equipment such as
reverse osmosis systems, distillers and deionisers to ensure analytical safety in laboratory tests. The aim of this
research was to assess the feasibility of using condensed water from the air-conditioning in the laboratories
of the Federal Rural University of Amazonia - Capanema/PA campus as a substitute for distilled water, as
an alternative to the recurrent interruptions in the distillation system used. The following parameters were
assessed: Temperature, pH, Electrical Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids, Salinity, Turbidity, Al, Fe, Cu and
Zn in the condensed water collected from the appliances, totalling 188 samples. The results were compared
with reference values established by the ASTM D1193-06/2018, ISO - BS No. 3696/95, Distilled Water
standards and those found by other authors, in order to ensure that the measurements met all the quality
criteria for the purpose of use proposed in the research. The results showed that some parameters, such as
Electrical Conductivity, pH and Fe, increased in relation to the reference standards, but these are not levels
that make it unfeasible to use condensed water in laboratory analytical processes as a substitute for distilled
water, when necessary, without affecting the results in terms of teaching activities
