Resumo

The reagent acetoxyacetyl chloride is an acyl halide used as a source of acetyl groups in acylation
reactions. In the literature, its application is evidenced mainly in the synthesis of new β-lactam derivatives,
contributing to advances in medicinal chemistry and the synthesis of natural products. This article presents
its physicochemical properties, toxicity, the synthetic methods described and the applications reported in
the literature, especially in the synthesis of new β-lactam derivatives.
