Resumo

In residential bathrooms, a variety of materials and personal-use products produced by the chemical
industry for various purposes can be found. There are no two bathrooms exactly alike with the same
personal care products. In reality, these spaces are filled with chemicals and/or their mixtures e.g., water,
alcohol, and disinfectants, medications, and polymeric materials e.g., toothbrushes, dental floss, paper,
towels, curtains, not to mention the appliances e.g., hair dryer and shaver. Thus, this article follows the
series of articles titled “Chemistry is Here,” where the aim is to demonstrate that chemistry is present
in everything and, more specifically, presents itself positively in ways that enhance our quality of
life. Aspects related to water, the common treasure of nature most abundant in these settings, will be
addressed. However, this resource has been increasingly threatened by various human activities, often
predatory. Many other products are commonplace in bathrooms, such as soaps, moisturizers, shampoos,
conditioners, toothpaste, mouthwash, disinfectants, cleaning products, and plumbing materials, among
others. However, it is important to emphasize that the use of soap is intricately linked to water, and this
article has extensively analysed its various nuances and issues.
