Resumo

Residues from teaching, research and extension chemical laboratories are generated on a small scale, when
compared to industrial residues or large segments, however they present quite complex, diversified profiles
and demand special care. The adoption of a waste management program by high school institutions and
universities, especially in Chemistry institutes and departments, is crucial to minimize the environmental
impacts caused by them. However, the aspects involved in the management of chemical residues in
teaching, research and extension laboratories are little explored, since there are no specific laws for these
environments, making it a complex topic. Thus, the objective of this work is to elucidate the main aspects
and mandatory procedures in the management of waste from different segments based on a systematic
review of literature, norms, laws, decrees and Brazilian resolutions, in order to guide the development of
a management program of waste in teaching, research and extension laboratories.
