The global productive system works mostly linearly, completely disconnected from trends towards
a sustainable world. In this context, chemistry plays a crucial role in changing the production and
consumption paradigm, developing innovative solutions for a more sustainable world. This contribution
points out possible paths, barriers and challenges in the transition from linear to circular economy, as well
as different examples of successful application of circularity. Initiatives of several companies that adopt
production processes based on the principles of sustainability will be listed throughout this manuscript,
in addition to relevant academic projects on the subject, especially in the area of CO2 use and biomass
valuation. In this context, the contribution of chemistry is strongly highlighted in topics such as capture
and use of CO2, as well as biofuels and chemical processes derived from biomass.
