Resumo

Considering the plant leaves capacity to act as bio-indicative, this paper intends to contribute with a new form to determine qualitatively the capacity antioxidant of compounds using a quite simple methodology. Both the effect of scavenging of free radicals (DPPH) and the effect of chlorophyll degradation (ECD) showed that the activity is concentration dependent. The antioxidant activity (DPPH) varied according to the material examined, however, revealed a significant difference only for Beta-Sitosterol, showing that quercetin, trolox and vitamin C are antioxidant substances. In an analogous but qualitative way, the effect of chlorophyll degradation showed similar results, which evidences that this new methodology can be used for this purpose.
